Description
Description
You'll be amazed at how sharp you can sharpen virtually any axe with the AX-40 axe jig. The two jaws fit securely around the axe head, allowing for easy, symmetrical, and precise sharpening. The axe jig allows you to sharpen concave, flat, or convex bevels, depending on what best suits your axe and its intended use. It's suitable for all types of axes, from hatchets to carpenter's axes, carving axes, and broadswords—virtually any axe can be sharpened to perfection.
Why AX-40 axe holder?
- Easy to use.
- Precise and symmetrical sharpening.
- Versatile: sharpens convex, flat or concave bevels.
- Fits all types of axes.
- Works with the Tormek T-8, Tormek T-4 and older models.
Convex, flat or concave bevel
With the AX-40 axe jig, you can sharpen any type of axe with a convex, flat, or concave bevel. Each jaw of the jig has two stops that allow you to make a controlled movement across the grinding wheel between the stops to sharpen a convex bevel. You can also sharpen a slightly concave grind by using one of the stops as a reference point. To achieve a completely flat bevel, grind on the side of a diamond grinding wheel with the MB-102 multi-holder.
Straight or curved cutting edges
Outdoor axes and carving axes typically have a curved edge, while splitting axes and carpenter's axes may have a nearly straight edge. Because the axe jig's stops are rounded, it's easy to follow the shape of the axe, whether it's straight or rounded. This way, you can achieve a consistent bevel on all your axes!
Sharpening angle according to application area
With the AX-40 axe jig, you have the freedom to choose the optimal sharpening angle for your axe using the WM-200 angle gauge. The cutting angle for an all-purpose axe for sports and outdoor use is wider than for a carving axe, allowing for more force to be applied. A splitting axe requires an even wider cutting angle.
Carving axes, for example, can be ground asymmetrically, with a larger bevel on the left side (if you're right-handed). This makes cutting and carving easier because the cutting force is closer to the cutting direction.
Extreme versatility
The AX-40 axe jig is not only versatile in terms of the different axes it can sharpen, but also offers a wide range of positioning options while sharpening. You can sharpen either with the trailing edge (the edge in the direction of rotation of the grinding wheel) or with the leading edge (the edge opposite to the direction of rotation), standing or sitting on either side of the machine. You can find the position that best suits you and your axe.
