TORMEK Jig Multi - SVS-50

This fixture is called a "multi-fixture" for a reason. It consists of a housing and two interchangeable holders for different tool types: the open holder and the closed holder. Thus, it's essentially two fixtures in one.

With the SVS-50 you can grind straight and angled turning tools with straight or curved cutting edges as well as parting tools, roughing gouges and gouges and chisels for wood carving.

The closed seat

For straight and angled chisels

The closed chuck is designed for precision grinding of straight and angled chisels for turning and carving. Because the chisel is mounted in the center of the chuck, you only need to mount the tool once to grind both bevels. Once one side is finished, simply flip the chuck and grind the other side until they are symmetrical.

Thanks to a unique and patented design, this jig can also be used to grind bevel irons with an oval profile. The jig aligns the bevel iron so that it is parallel to the universal support, allowing you to grind both straight and curved edges. The maximum width of the bevel iron is 32 mm.

The open seat

For roughing gouges, parting tools and wide carving gouges

The open holder, in which the tool is secured with an upper screw, is used for tools whose cutting edges are ground transversely to the shank, such as parting tools, beading tools, roughing gouges, and wide carving gouges up to 50 mm wide. The holders are mounted with a lower screw, which also holds them at the selected bevel angle.

SVS-50 in combination with the setting gauge for turning tools

For grinding turning tools, we strongly recommend using the SVS-50 jig in combination with the TTS-100 setting gauge for turning tools. This allows you to precisely reproduce the shape and cutting angle time and time again. This also saves time, as only a minimal amount of material is removed during each grinding process.

Wet grinding on your Tormek produces a very sharp edge that lasts much longer. Truly sharp gouges cut better and the wood develops a very fine surface. Often, no resharpening is necessary.

Use of the SVS-50 on double grinding machines

For woodturning tools, you can also use the SVS-50 on a bench grinder with the BGM-100 mounting kit if you need to remove a lot of steel from new tools to change a profile. However, you must be careful not to overheat the cutting edge. After creating the rough shape on the bench grinder, leave the tool in the jig and switch to the Tormek machine to give the cutting edge its final sharpness.
