TORMEK Jig for Gouges - SVD-186R

With the Tormek SVD-186 Gouge Jig, you can sharpen your finger-shaped turning gouges to razor-sharp perfection. The high level of control allows you to precisely reproduce the desired profile.

With this gouge grinding device you can also grind carving tools with complex shapes such as bent or curved carving gouges and goat's feet.

SVD-186 for turning tools

You'll receive an exact reproduction of both the shape and cutting edge angle of your bowl gouges and spindle gouges. This guarantees that your tool will perform reliably on the lathe after each grinding. When used correctly and in combination with your Tormek grinding machine, this solution is unmatched in terms of speed and sharpness.

The fixture can be adjusted for different bevel lengths. Create your own profile recipe or select one of the recommended profiles from the selection table in the manual.

You can also sharpen your turning tools with the SVD-186. To do this, mount your tool on the special shaft included with the spindle. The video shows you how it works!

Optimal cutting

Wet grinding on your Tormek produces a very sharp edge that lasts much longer. Truly sharp gouges cut better and the wood develops a very fine surface. Often, no resharpening is necessary.

Full control

With the TTS-100 turning tool setting gauge, you can get the exact shape and cutting edge angle you need for your turning task. Even the lengths of the side wings can be varied, so the shape of the tube fits your turning process.

Exact repeatability

Both the shape and cutting edge angle are precisely reproduced, so the grinding process takes less than a minute. Because you remove only fractions of a millimeter with each grinding process, your turning tools will last for years, possibly even a lifetime.

Gentle on steel

With the Tormek system, the cutting edge is continuously cooled with water, so the steel does not overheat and retains its hardness.

SVD-186 with a double grinder

With the BGM-100 mounting kit, you can also use the SVD-186 on a bench grinder if you need to remove a lot of steel from new tools to change the profile or create a smaller cutting angle. However, you must be careful not to overheat the cutting edge. After creating the rough shape on the bench grinder, switch to the Tormek machine to give the cutting edge its final sharpness.

Thanks to the patented TTS-100 setting gauge for turning tools, you can maintain the exact shape and cutting edge angle. This makes it easier to switch from the bench grinder back to the Tormek. Exactly the same angle. Two advantages with the same fixture system – faster material removal and optimal cutting edge sharpness!
