TORMEK Jig for Straight Edges - SE-77

The SE-77 straight-edge jig makes it easy to adjust your chisels and plane irons to a right-angled edge. The design provides the best conditions for successful sharpening with the highest precision in the final result. You can also adjust the jig for a slightly convex shape.

The SE-77 straight-edge jig is a further development of the SE-76 jig. It features an adjustable side that can be adjusted using two smaller adjustment screws, allowing for fine-tuning if necessary. This may be necessary if the tool is not sitting at the exact angle to the stone, if the tool is very narrow, or if the steel is slightly twisted. Fine adjustment is achieved in just a few seconds by loosening one of the smaller adjustment screws and tightening the other.

The design of the jig also allows for positioning and sharpening tapered chisels, such as Japanese chisels. The safety stops hold the jig securely on the universal support and prevent the tool from slipping off the grindstone, eliminating the risk of injuring your fingers while sharpening. The jig is suitable for chisels and plane irons up to 77 mm wide.

Sharpening a convex shape

Most types of plane irons can benefit from a slight convex shape. The degree of curvature depends on the type of plane and should be approximately the same as the thickness of the shavings. Thanks to the adjustable side on the SE-77 jig, you can achieve the optimal convex shape for your tool.
