Description
Description
You'll be surprised at how sharp axes can be sharpened with the Tormek Axe Jig SVA-170. The jig supports the axe and allows for sharpening with a consistent cutting angle.
The rotation of the stone presses the axe firmly into the jig and increases your hand strength, forcing the edge to press against the stone with sufficient grinding pressure. This also prevents scoring in the stone, which can easily occur when grinding freehand against the grinding direction.
Using a dry grinder with high speed can cause the cutting edge to overheat and destroy the axe. With Tormek, this risk is eliminated, as the cutting edge is constantly cooled by water.
Straight or curved cutting edges
Because the axe head is freely supported by the rubber-covered stop, you can follow the shape of the cutting edge, whether it's straight or curved. A forestry axe has a curved cutting edge, while the cutting edge of a carpenter's axe can be almost straight.
The ideal cutting angle for your work
Choose the optimal cutting angle for your axe. A general-purpose axe for sports and leisure activities has a larger cutting angle than a carpenter's axe. A splitting axe needs an even larger cutting angle.
You can also sharpen a carpenter's axe, for example, with a larger bevel on the left side (for right-handed users). The axe will then cut more easily because the cutting force is closer to the cutting direction.
