Description
Description
If you need to remove a large amount of material to create a specific shape on a new tool, you can use the Tormek woodturning jigs on your bench grinder with the BGM-100 bench grinder mounting kit.
Keep control of your profiles
No matter what grinder you use, the most difficult part of sharpening woodturning tools is precisely repeating the shape and cutting angle.
With the BGM-100 you can now use the following Tormek jigs on your bench grinder: the SVD-186 gouge jig, the SVS-50 multi-jig, the SVD-110 grinding support and last but not least the TTS-100 turning tool setting gauge.
What is included in the BGM-100 package?
The kit includes a height-adjustable block, screws and accessories, a universal support, a horizontal holder, feet for your custom base, and comprehensive instructions. Mount the kit on any side of the grinder.
Why do we also offer Tormek jigs for bench grinders?
We believe the water-cooled Tormek system is the superior solution for sharpening virtually any cutting tool in your workshop. However, it's no secret that for woodturning tools and when there's a large amount of steel to remove, the initial sharpening can be completed more quickly on a bench grinder. We know that many woodturners own a bench grinder and use it for the initial rough shape.
If you own a Tormek grinding machine
With the BGM-100, you can use the same precise Tormek jigs throughout the entire grinding process. No more long trial and error trying to achieve the right shape on the bench grinder. Thanks to the TTS-100 setting gauge, you enjoy the benefits of rapid stock removal on the bench grinder and can then—with the same settings—move the tool to the water-cooled Tormek whetstone or leather honing wheel for the final grinding and polishing.
If you don't have a Tormek grinding machine
If you don't yet own a Tormek machine, you can still take advantage of the Tormek Precision Jig System and create the desired shape and required edge angle on your bench grinder. The principle of setting the shape and edge angle is the same, regardless of the machine you use. If you decide to purchase a Tormek at a later date, you'll already have the jigs you need for your woodturning tools.
Double grinding machines
Use the correct grinding wheel
Not all grinding wheels are equally suitable for the precise grinding of cutting tools. Often, the wheels supplied with bench grinders have a bond that is too hard and a grit that is too fine. This results in rapid clogging of the grinding surface and the associated high heat generation, which can lead to tool overheating. Blunt abrasive grains must be released from the bond during grinding (soft bond) so that sharp grains can become active. However, even grinding wheels of the correct specification must be regularly maintained.
Grinding surface of the disc
The wheel must be clean. Use a diamond grinding wheel dresser to keep the wheel round and the grinding surface active.
