Greetings,
We get – understandably – a lot of questions about where the old orders have gone .
That's why we want to explain this openly and honestly.
None of this happened because we meant it badly —quite the opposite. There are a few good reasons why some things look different than usual.
You'll find a brief summary above, and we'll go into more detail below if you're interested.
The topic is complex, and we're addressing it openly. It's important to remember: We're handling all of this with a team of just three people.
But we think our performance is absolutely impressive.
Compact explanation
We know how convenient it is to be able to access past orders or your own wish list – and that's exactly why we're working on providing a solution for this.
We're currently investigating whether we can continue running the old shop on a small server so that you can still access your existing data if needed. This is expensive, and we're currently exploring the possibility.
If you need anything in advance or have any questions, just send us a quick email. We'll be happy to send you the information you need about your orders – straightforward and personal, as you've come to expect from us.
Thank you for your trust – and we’re glad you’re with us.
And if you have any further questions, please let me know!
+43 6278 93080 or by email to mail@mikestoolshop.at
Kind regards
Your team from Mike's Toolshop
Long version
Here are a few topics that reach us – and to which we would like to respond:
Why can't I see my orders anymore?
Indeed, we tried it and invested a lot of effort and money. Unfortunately, the results were always disappointing.
I've witnessed and observed numerous system changes in recent years. Almost none have been successful—or if so, only for a limited period.
Even a large and well-known online shop from Bavaria has been writing the same text for over a year. We will continue to run the old server on a cost-effective platform for anyone who wants it. (The previous, high-performance premium server will no longer be available due to cost reasons.)
If you need order data from your recent purchases, you can get almost anything from me – unless it's older than three years . Then the software manufacturer begins the anonymization and archiving process.
Regarding your simple and more than understandable request, all I can say is: We tried it – and ultimately failed due to the sheer amount of data.
If a system has been running since April 2019 and has experienced the coronavirus pandemic and other extreme order volumes, then stumbling blocks arise that destroy entire views. The file has millions of lines – my very powerful computer, which has been used for 4K video editing, already has trouble opening it.
Do you need data? The server is scheduled to be moved and slimmed down by the end of next week – precisely for data requests like these.
Login via password. I personally find the detour via email tedious.
Yes, security can be a little uncomfortable – we made a conscious decision to do so.
The reason is simple: Unfortunately, we experienced fraud firsthand. It resulted in losses amounting to several thousand euros (a police report was filed, but the proceedings have been paused because no perpetrator has yet been identified).
What happened?
Customers clicked on fraudulent links online, resulting in the theft of their login details or entire accounts. And because many people reuse their passwords (or because billions of passwords from data leaks are currently circulating), perpetrators were able to log into customer accounts, order goods on account, and then intercept these accounts.
A little bit of Hollywood – unfortunately in real life, unfortunately in our tool shop with our money.
Important: No data was stolen from us.
But we've tightened our security measures to ensure it stays that way and we haven't suffered any further damage. With the current system, you're generally on the safe side – unless someone has access to your email account. Unfortunately, beyond that point, no security feature can really help.
